A fluid space built between garden and home.

Concept

Acknowledging the importance of preserving the original home’s care and craftsmanship, we aimed to restore the homes attributes by creating functional space within the existing footprint without compromise to our client’s vision, comfort and lifestyle.

Execution

We removed walls to recycle floor space and natural light from an unused bedroom, and removed a narrow hallway in exchange for a wide staircase. Closing in a dark staircase on the far end of the residence accommodates a large laundry room on the main floor and mudroom off the garage entry below.

Light finishes are used for a warm interior, complimenting the vaulted ceilings and accepting light from high windows along the north face of the home. Darker finishes are used for the majority of the exterior. Light tile and stone cladding appear as crisp features against the moody backdrop.
